Our Farm
After 17 years living at Yambuk, South West Victoria, Australia, Haldane Icelandic Horses and the herd are making a new home at Tyrendarra. Only 10 mins West of the old farm the new farm is 63 acres, with lots of gum trees and a large dam.
The new farm was already called "Little Eden" and it's proving to be a real paradise to live here. Watching koalas, rosellas and lots of other lovely creatures from the big windows in the house, as well as on farm walks.
We're slowing upgrading the fencing, watering points, feed and facilities. Our horses are still able to be out in big paddocks and large groups like they were at Yambuk. I'm setting up a paddock paradise type farm, with long laneways with the aim to make it easy to run with one person and create healthy happy horses with good pasture and herd management.
Each day is a wonderful new adventure here.
Tyrendarra, Port Fairy and Portland
The new farm is exactly between Portland and Port Fairy. So we can go either direction to walk or swim on magnificent beaches.
Only a few minutes drive away is the Fitzroy River mouth, with it's amazing fishing.
If you're heading to Portland there is plenty to do. Visit Narrawong, Nunns Beach, a walk out at Cape Nelson Lighthouse, see the seals at Cape Bridgewater & visit the amazing Budj Bim Centre to learn all about Eels and the long history of Aboriginal Eel farming in the area.
Between us and Port Fairy is Yambuk. ( once the home of Haldane Icelandic horses and Shaw River Buffalo Cheese) If you go down to the Yambuk Lake though you will find a little patch of paradise with a beautiful beach for a long walk in the sand down to the river mouth. The "lake" and river are ideal for fishing, bbq , boating, a play in the playground or some fun at the "Yambuk Slide".
Only 20 mins away is Port Fairy, a gorgeous spot for a seaside holiday. The town is small and quaint with great boutique shopping and many gourmet restaurants.
Our dad Roger is originally from Port Fairy,where his grandfather was the last lighthouse keeper on Griffiths Island.
Port Fairy holds many events each year including the Port Fairy Folk Festival, Winter weekends, Exlibris and Spring music fest. See the whales in winter, surf, swim, fish all year round at the beautiful beaches.
